COMMUNITY COLLEGE  @  ABHAYAPURI COLLEGE

Abhayapuri College is one of the premier institution in the lower part of Assam located in a backward district, Bongaigaon (Categorized ‘A’ by UGC) which was established in the year 1955. It is surrounded by the communities mainly consists of minority, ST, SC and other backward castes and with poor economic condition. It was established to cater the need of higher education to the women in particular and the people of the above mentioned communities. The College is now imparting academic curriculum both the Arts and Science in under graduate level   besides PG courses in distance mode under GU and KKHSOU. Last year UGC has approved B.Voc courses in Information Technology and Tourism & Travel Management. Moreover the college has introduced . self finance and professional courses like PGDCA, BCA, BBA etc

The reasons behind  Abhayapuri  College wants to introduce  Skill based courses like Financial Service Sector

1.      Abhayapuri College is only college in the whole lower Assam after Guwahati, which got UGC approval and grant for B. Voc. degree courses (IT & TTM) from the session 2015-16.

2.      Bongaigaon (District head quarter) is one of the big town next to Guwahati and Dibrugarh in terms of educational institute, commercial and financial institution, trade and commerce and communication. The proposed course will have a good response and privilege for conducting the course as well as internship & placement services.

3.      Regarding communication skill for the student’s workshop will be organized within the 1st semester of the course. Appropriate action will be taken in appropriate time discussion with the Gauhati University and Partner of the proposed programmes and the guidance of the UGC in this regards.

4.      College is arranging digital classroom, digital library, virtual classroom with own competent server and digital learning contents very with the grant of Rs. 1 Crore received from Govt. of Assam for the purpose.

OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the scheme are:

(i)         to make higher education relevant to the learner and the community;

(ii)        to integrate relevant skills into the higher education system;

(iii)       to provide skill based education to students currently pursuing higher education but actually interested in entering the workforce at the earliest opportunity;

(iv)       to provide employable and certifiable skills based on National Occupational Standards (NOSs) with necessary general education to Senior Secondary School pass-outs, with general education and /or vocational education background.

(v)        to provide for up-gradation and certification of traditional / acquired skills of the learners irrespective of their age;

(vi)       to provide opportunities for community–based life-long learning by offering courses of general interest to the community for personal development and interest;

(vii)      to provide opportunity for vertical mobility to move to higher education in future; and

(viii)     to offer bridge courses to certificate holders of general / vocational education, so as to bring them at par with appropriate NSQF level.

(ix)       to provide entrepreneurial orientation along with required skill training for self-employment and entrepreneurship development
